Our Young Athletes league team have retained their place in the Northern Premier league after their final match of the season at Blackburn this weekend. Despite finishing on the same number of match points as Liverpool P&S our superior score points saw us avoid the drop by 57.5 points.
There were some great performances on the day, and many thanks to all those athletes and parents who came. Notable performances were Tom Smeeton who won the U15 boys 80m hurdles in a new club record of 12.3 seconds, and also Sophie Brown in the U17 women's triple jump who won with a club record jump of 11.74m. Two of the most exciting finishes to races in the season were in the U15 girls 1500m where Beth Ansell managed to squeeze through on the inside of the Blackpool athlete in the final 30 metres. Also, Joe Lancaster on his debut for the club in the U15 boys 800m who managed a great burst of speed in the last 100m to pass the Sale athlete and win by 6 tenths of a second.
