It was a busy weekend for our athletes over the weekend of 6 and 7 June. Our mens British Athletics League team made a good start to the Premier League season on their return. The Northern League team had a good result at Doncaster in their division 2EC match, and the young athletes were in action at Rotherham.
British Athletics League
The team made a great start to the season on home soil at Don Valley Stadium. They finished in 4th place out of 8 of the best teams in Britain.
The team had one individual winner, Graeme Mathews in the triple jump with 14.80 metres. It was the best event for the team with Simon Newton coming third in the B event with 13.39.
The pole vaulters were affected by the wet and Sheffield's Luke Cutts was surprisingly beaten into second place, well below his best with only 4.60.

Northern League
In their second match of the season the team finished in fourth place which puts them second in the league behind Rotherham. The best event for the team was the 110 metre hurdles where Steve Garrett and Tom Grantham both won their pools.
In the women's hammer Amy Hill set a new senior womens club record, as did Leanne Spooner in the triple jump.
South Yorkshire League
Congratulations to Eve Pound who bettered the U15 800m club record with a time of 2:26.0, and also Cormack Lever who set a new record for the U13 boys discus with a throw of 20.53m.Oliver Dane set a new record for the U11 boys 600m with 1:53.3.
