Jessica Ennis made a stunning superb comeback to heptathlon competition by winning the Multistars IAAF Combined Events Challenge in Desenzano del Garda, Italy, with a personal best of 6,587.
It puts her third on the all-time British list behind 2000 Olympic champion Denise Lewis and Judy Simpson.
In her first full heptathlon since the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, she easily beat the UK Athletics A qualifying standard of 6100 .
Jess started with 12.98 in the hurdles, one hundredth of a second outside her pb. She increased her lead with a 1.90 high jump, narrowly failing at 1.93, followed by 13.19 in the shot. She was disappointed to fall short of her personal best, set last weekend in the Northern League, but easily retained her lead, increasing it with 23.49 for the 200 metres.
Her best-ever first day score of 4003 gave her the overnight lead. She built on it on the second day with 6.16 in the long jump, 42.70 in the javelin and a PB of 2:09:88 in the 800m. The 800 was the fastest of the competition.
Afterwards, she said: "It's a massive relief. It was just awful being injured last year and it's good to get back in the game and to come away with a PB is a huge bonus. I feel in good shape and good health, there are no aches and pains. I just can't believe how well the whole weekend has gone.
"It all started with the hurdles yesterday which went really well and it's just rolled on through. The momentum just built throughout."
