| 2009/10 Cross Country Season - dates for your diary! |
|
As the athletics season draws to a close it's time to think about getting out your cross country shoes and thermal underwear, and prepare for the joys of the cross country season. By the time we all get back to school and work after the summer break, the early warm up competitions will be looming large.
The table below summarises the main competitions which City of Sheffield Juniors get involved in. To those of you who are new to it all this year it can appear a bit daunting, so if you have any queries, either email me or call me on the number at the bottom of this email. Yellow background - South Yorks league matches are all local, friendly, good fun and get a good turn out. You can buy numbers from me in September (usually around £6 for all 4 races). Like athletics, you keep the same number all season. I'll send out details of each event in advance, and you can view them for yourself on the South Yorkshire League website : http://www.rhac.co.uk/sycaa/index.htm Grey background - (provisional dates) Secondary Schools competitions (there are Primary schools ones as well - but too many to mention here!) The club is not involved in schools competitions, but many of our juniors do both. I've shown them here so that we can all see the busy time we have coming up in the autumn....... White background - some juniors may be interested in road relays this year. When I've received the entry details, I'll email asking for people who are interested in being part of a team to get in touch, and put the teams together. Purple background - We try to involve as many juniors as we can in these team relay competitions. The distances are usually shorter, and the events are lively. The Cutlers Relays are seen as the local 'warm-up' event for the season - so we try to get as many teams together in each age group as possible. I'll be getting in touch nearer the time to find out who would be interested in taking part Turquoise background - County and Regional championships. These events are very well attended and a great experience for anyone who enjoys cross country. At the top end, they are also very competitive, but all are welcome and all our local clubs get a lot of juniors turning out. English National Cross Country Championships - this is open to any club runners and is quite an experience! UK CAU Championships - athletes for this competition are selected at the County Championships for the County team
Please call if you have any questions. Everyone is welcome at all the cross country events, and I'll be keeping you notified of all events as entry details are sent to the club. The dates listed above, and details of any open events, will be listed on the club website. Please note that anyone aged 15 or over can also take part in 10k road races! Finally, if anyone wants to be removed from my cross country email list, just let me know. Enjoy the summer break, and hopefully see you in the autumn! Isabelle 07768 366637 |
