The fantastic results for the club more than made up for the very wet weather at Mansfield yesterday. We'd like to say a very big 'thank you' to athletes, parents and other supporters who turned out and this gave us the best and most consistently high set of results across all the age groups we have ever had at this event.
This is a National competition. Every club in England fields the best athletes it can on the day. Coming in the top 20 is a huge achievement, a top 40 place a very good result. For our incomplete and 'B' team runners, the whole occasion is a unique and exciting experience. For those of you competing here for the first time, I do hope the conditions didn't put you off! The course was slippy and most of our athletes got a proper soaking or a mud bath, but even so they pulled of some tremendous team performances:
Under 20 Men - 7th Place - Adam Newton, James Gray and Jacob Clark
Under 17 Women - 10th Place - Eve Pound, Beth Ansell and Laura Goodwin
Under 13 Boys 'A' - 14th Place - Alfie Manthorpe, Oliver Dane and Joe Morton
Under 15 Girls - 19th Place - Ellie Curran, Anina Atkinson and Sophie Taylor
Under 13 Girls - 38th Place - Amelia Lancaster, Mariella De Lara, Megan Storey
Senior Men - 61st (out of 157 complete teams...) Steve Evison, Howard Wood, Sam Ellis, Stephen Gisbourn
Under 13 Boys 'B' - 73rd Place - Laurie Young, Rhys Brown and Hamish Partington
And well done too to Calvi Thompson and Susannah Curran who competed in an incomplete U17 Women's team.
The consistent results from all our athletes are a reflection of the solid coaching provided by the coaching team - all the hard work put in from athletes and coaches is certainly paying off!
Full results can be found at www.englishcrosscountry.co.uk under the 'Relays' tab.
Many thanks to Stephen Gisbourn for helping me back to the car, and to Daisy for coming along to set up the gazebo with me, and to everyone else for their contributions and good humour during what was the wettest relay competition I've ever had the pleasure of organising the teams for.
If anyone has any photos they'd be prepared to share on the club website and/or club cross country Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/CoSAC.XC.Team), please could you forward them to me? We took a camera but I didn't get much chance to take any photos!
Finally, I hope to see many of you next Sunday at Wentworth Castle at Stainborough (NOT at Wentworth itself!) for the second SYCAA cross country league match. Anyone still without a number who wants to compete can buy one from me on the day.
Kind regards
Isabelle
