Northern Cross Country Championships - Race Report and end of season report
All who travelled to Pontefract for the Northern Cross Country Championships enjoyed a gloriously sunny and wind free day which saw some more excellent performances from City of Sheffield Athletes. A very windy day in Wakefield did not deter our young athletes from delivering truly stunning team and individual performances at the County Championships today. The final race and Championship for the South Yorkshire League took place on a very cold, grey, windy and eventually wet day in Doncaster. There was a good turnout for the club despite the winter lurgies and odd injury taking its toll and our overall team score at the end of this season lifted us to 3rd place in the League – quite a remarkable achievement from everyone who has turned out and run in the series this season considering we ended last year just missing relegation to Division 2. Well done everyone! All of you who have competed this season have made a contribution.
SYCAA Cross Country League - Match 3, 27 November - Race report
When we arrived at Mount Saint Mary’s, Spinkhill, the wind was so strong that the padded wrap-arounds on the rugby posts had been blown off the posts and were tumbling across the course. We didn't attempt the gazebo. It took six people to put the League Secretary’s tiny tent up, and the wind even got under the tape we’d used to stick the course maps on the doors of the pavilion and sent them flying, not to be seen again. As usual, none of this deterred our hardy and determined athletes who turned up looking like they’d really rather be somewhere indoors. That didn’t last long though as they all got down to business and we had some more fantastic individual results and team scores for the club on this excellent course.
South Yorks AA Cross Country League Match 2
Some more good results for the club followed an interesting days racing at Wentworth Castle on Sunday. Once we had found each other in the fog, and managed to dodge the deer on the course, numbers were pinned on and our young and not quite so young athletes disappeared from the start, not to be seen again until the finish. Those of us who stayed until the end were treated to the views of the park when the fog briefly lifted. We would have been able to see pretty much all of the course and it was a beautiful setting.More Articles...
