Peter Matthews' annual merit rankings places Rebecca Mersh 8th in the senior women’s walks. This is based mainly on 20 K which Rebecca Mersh does not do yet but takes into account the shorter 10 K and 5 K races. Rebecca Mersh is the only walker to be placed in the top ten who has not done 20 K. Looking at some old results recently I noticed what consistent results our U13’s have produced in the Race Walking Association Championships with just over 11 min. for 2 K, especially in their first year in the age group. Exceptional times marked with ´!´<p> 2000: Rebecca Mersh (1st year): 11.10 min. (2nd) 2001: Rebecca Mersh (2nd year): 10.33 min. (2nd) (!) 2002: Kathryn Granger (1st year): 11.03 min. (1st) 2003: Kathryn Granger (2st year): 10.15 min. (1st) (!) 2003: Mark Pratt (2nd year): 11.18 (3rd) 2003: Natalie Myers (1st year): 11.25 min. (4th) 2004: Natalie Myers (2st year): 11.09 min. (2nd) gale 2005: Danya Sarayreh (2nd year): 11.13 min. (2nd) Best Pairs Relay: Our third Best Pairs Relay took place at Millhouse Park on 13 January in very windy conditions with just 5 youngsters braving the elements. Each person walks 1000 m. 1000 m. and 500 m. The time in brackets is their average time per 500 m. Natalie’s hard work this winter is showing. She was the only one to get inside her handicap target and after 5 K of racing her team was beaten by only 2 seconds. 1st: Jessica Cunliffe and Rebecca Mersh: 30.08 min. 2nd: Danya Sarayreh and Natalie Myers: 30.10 min. 3rd: Kathryn Granger and ‘the clock’: 30.25 min. 2005 Ranking: The senior rankings for 2005 saw Rebecca Mersh 5th in the 3000 m. track in 14.13.5 min. with Kathryn Granger 16th in 15.28.5 min. Rebecca Mersh was 4th in the 5000 m. track in 24.06.6 min. and 5th at 10 K in 51.38 min. With the above times Rebecca Mersh topped both the U20 and U17 rankings at all distances. Robbie Bain who is training with us whilst at University ranked 3rd in the U20 10 K with 49.42 min. He was 2nd at both 5000 m. in (23.18.05 min. and 3000 m. in 13.22.23 min. Kathryn Granger topped the U15 3000 m. ranking with Natalie Myers in 16.16.63 min. in 3rd place and Mark Pratt 4th in the boy’s rankings in 16.06.84 min. Danya Sarayreh's 1000 m. time of 5.13.7 min. is the fastest U13 time of the year. It put her in 7th place on the all time lists. Kathryn Granger is 1st, Natalie Granger is 3rd, and Rebecca Mersh is 4th. Danya Sarayreh was ranked second at both 2 K in 11.01 min. and 3000 m. in 17.24.6 min. Tyler Bower was ranked 9th in the U13 Boys 2 K with a time of 12.27.5 min. Yorkshire Winter League: Mark Pratt tackled his first 10 K race at York on January 15th where he produced an excellent 61.46 min. NoEAA Indoor Championships: This event was a big disappointment and frustration as a late change of date for the UK squad weekend prevented most of our walkers competing. But Danya Sarayreh did turn up only to find the other 6 entrants did not appear. She walked a brave and 15 lonely laps to record a really good 17.34.53 min. Meanwhile at the UK squad weekend Natalie Myers had picked up a really bad cough and cold and frustratingly could only watch as both her training partners and her rivals put in some really hard work. Rebecca Mersh clocked 36 K in the 2 days and Kathryn Granger put in 25 K taking their weeks total to 62 K and 50 K. |
