Alex Kruger won the decathlon gold at the World Masters Athletic Championships in Riccione, Italy yesterday.
Competing in the M40 age group Alex was very strong in the jumping and throwing events, winning the high jump, shot putt and discus, and taking second place in the 100m hurdles, pole vault and javelin.
Such was his lead after 9 events that a 20th place finish in the final event, the 1500m, didn't dislodge him from the gold medal position. His final points total was 6,747, which was 81 points ahead of silver medallist Guido Gans of Germany.
Congratulations Alex and good luck in the individual high jump competition on 10 September.
