The UKA Young Athletes team made a winning start in their fisrt season back in Northern Division 1 East on Sunday. There was a great team effort, and support from parents, which helped them to a winning margin of 160.5 points.

On a blustery day in Darlington, blustery to the extent where the high jump bar had to be held in place, our young athletes produced a fantastic performance in winning their first match back in this division with a total of 418 points, 160.5 points ahead of second placed Morpeth with 257.5.
What was great to see was athletes willing to have a go at events that they are unfamiliar with (hammer, discus, javelin and hurdles) and in some cases winning. The winning margin owes much to the contribution of these athletes.
All our athletes put in a fantastic effort in the conditions, especially those competing in their first ever match.
The team spirit in the athletes, and athlete's families present, was evident in the U13 High Jump event where the last three remaining athletes were from our club (Lucy and Bethany in the girl's competition and Adam in the boy's). As each athlete jumped the crowd cheered each effort and this spurred the athletes onto better performances, with Beth jumping 1.39m in her first ever high jump!
A special thanks should go to Eldridge, Gerald and the Robs who got up so early to come along to help organise and officiate, and to all the parents and team managers.
