The Jeff Ford Memorial Walks, held as part of the Sheffield Festival of Athletics appropriately saw Jeff’s daughter Katie win the senior women’s 5k walk

Though competing only in this one race each year Katie once again demonstrated good fitness and technique in completing the course in 28.05. Lynn Bradley (31.06) was fourth and Vicky Moore (34.46) 8th.

With the event including the Race Walking Association Young Athletes Championships Sheffield walkers took two team titles and a set of silver medals to lift the Bill Harris Trophy as the most successful club at the national championships.

Reigning U17 champion Kathryn Granger (27.22) comfortably retained her title and was backed up by Natalie Myers (29.45) who successfully moved up from National U15 champion last year to runner up in the U17 5km this year.

In very warm conditions Mark Pratt was one of the few walkers to produce a personal best time with 27.07 for 5km as he took 4th place.

The second team title went to the U 15 boys with Tyler Bower (17.37) and Eddie Brebner (17.48) packing well in 3rd and 4th places with Shaun Cohen (21.38) backing them up in 7th.

Racing at interclub level for the first time Danielle (12.52) took fourth place in the U13 girls 2km event, ahead of all the U13 boys. Georgia Pinder was 7th in 14.31.

Danya Sarayreh U15 made it four city athletes filling that frustrating fourth place, missing out on a medal by just 3 seconds but along with Kathryn and Natalie she was rewarded with selection for the international match against Ireland in Dublin in June. Caitlyn Akers took 10th place in 21.06.
