City of Sheffield AC had an outstanding opening fixture on Saturday 6th may an Barnet Copthall Stadium in Hendon. The team were in the lead by 40 points at one stage during the match but finished a well deserved 2nd at the end of the day.
The match opened well with Steve Small winning the A string long jump in 7.05m Tom Grantham opened the track events with a 3rd place in the 400m hurdles A string and a PB and this was backed up by Aidy Wilson comfortably winning the B string. Moments later new recruit Sam Ellis and Steve Evison gained maximum points in the 800m A and B string events. Things got even better when teenage sprint sensation Gerald Phiri blasted his way to a win in the A string 100m in a time of 10.53 which was ably backed up Raphael Alleyene who finished 2nd in the B string event. Switching to the field events, Jamie Williamson and Daniel Brunt both finished 2nd in the Discus A and B strings. David Budd and Graeme Matthews did likewise in the triple jump . Good things were still happening on the track with John Kelly storming to 2nd place in the A string 400m .Sam Ellis followed up his earlier success by winning the B string Back in the field events Luke Cutts defied the bad weather conditions to easily win the A string Pole Vault whilst veteran Decathlete Alex Kruger won the B string. The Shott putt brought a 2nd place in the A string for Jamie Williamson and a 1st for Daniel Brunt in the B string. Two great performances in both the 4 x 100m relay and the 4 x 400m relay rounded off the day in great style.
