Welcome to the City of Sheffield Athletic Club

We are proud to be one of the North of England's premier clubs, with a vibrant mix of athletes - from 8 year olds to Seniors. At City of Sheffield we care about our athletes, whatever their standard, and this is reflected in our being awarded Clubmark by England Athletics. The club caters for athletes of all ages, ethnicity, development, and abilities to enhance their potential in the variety of disciplines which the sport offers.

By providing free coaching from qualified coaches with support for all, whether track & field, road, cross country or race walking, we nurture and develop the individual's abilities in a fun and friendly atmosphere to enable them to succeed to the best of their potential.

The club trains in state of the art facilities at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium and the English Institute of Sport.  If you are interested in athletics, whatever your level of ability, then you are invited to come along and join us.

If you are aged 8 to 16 years and are interested in joining us then visit our Young Athletes pages.

Officials Needed for the Young Athletes League

As Rob Andrew said on the Forum we get additional team points for providing officials at Young Athletes League matches. We had insufficient officials at Wavertree and lost 11 points as a result. Had we had an additional 3 officials we would have finished in 2nd place rather than in 3rd place in the match. At each match we need to provide:

2 Track Judges
2 Timekeepers
6 Field Judges (2 graded minimum)

Clubs are awarded 2 points per official (10 points max) plus an additional 5 points for full team of officials. Making a maximum 25 points that the officials can gain for the team. All three of our opponents at Wavertree got the maximum 25 points.

Andrea and Rob are the two graded Field Judges that we need. However, where we do need officials is as Timekeepers and Track Judges.

Can you please let Rob or Andrea know if you could help out by being an official at matches and I'm sure that we can organise someone to show you what to do at the next Young Athletes match on 18 May in Sheffield.

Wednesday Evening Young Athletes Training Sessions
Due to the large number of children currently attending the Wednesday evening sessions we are now at the limit that we can safely accommodate. We will therefore not be accepting any new children to the sessions at present. If you would like your child to attend these sessions then send your details to the  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  and we will add your child to our waiting list.

If your child currently attends the Wednesday evening sessions please note that we will be restructuring the format of the sessions in the very near future. The changes will improve the coaching provided and improve upon the safety of the training environment.

Sheffield Festival of Athletics

Many thanks to John Howley for organising the event and to all the other chaps who mashed the tea, compared, officiated etc, for a well run and successful event. Below are the results from the Jeff Ford Memorial Open Walks and the Festival track & field events.

Jessica Ennis threw 40.06m in the javelin, beating her PB for this event by almost 2 metres. Not bad considering how cold it was.
